The controversial forward, who played for the Gunners earlier in his career, came close to leaving the club on loan to West Ham United on the final day of the transfer window, before a move was blocked.
Adebayor has not been at his best for Tottenham this season and it was something of a surprise that he was not allowed to leave White Hart Lane this winter.
Despite a fine scoring record in this fixture, the 30-year-old will play no part in the game against Arsenal this afternoon.
