Rodgers, who was quoted by the Daily Mirror, said: “Steven possesses remarkable quality and attitude, he has always led by example – he has never shirked anything.
“I’m sure Everton will be glad to see the back of him, because he has been truly outstanding in so many derbies. He has always had that winning mentality, and that is what we have in the team now – that real competitive edge.
“Sakho and Skrtel are warriors, Can is physical and strong, Henderson’s a warrior, Lucas has been brilliant, Stevie doesn’t shirk anything, Coutinho is small but aggressive and so on.
“It’s something that doesn’t get noticed so much, but we certainly have that and especially away from home you need it, so we’ll look to call on that when it’s required.”
Gerrard has scored ten times against Everton in the past, with his most recent strike against the Blues coming earlier this season during the 1-1 draw at Anfield. Now the LA Galaxy-bound star will hope to go out with one final memorable performance.
“Stevie will want to go out with a bang,” Rodgers added. “I remember his first goal at Goodison – earlier in his career at the Gwladys Street end, when he had a bit of a set-to with the Everton fans while celebrating. He’d take that.
“He will want to win, it is simple. He will want them to know he goes into the game like every single game for Liverpool…believing he wants to win it for his club.”
