The Northern Irish star has made his breakthrough into the United first team this season making seven starts in the Premier League after making his debut against West Ham United in September.
His rapid progression from the youth ranks to the Red Devils first team has seen him be rewarded with a new contract.
There had been fears over his Old Trafford future after entering the final year of his contract, but van Gaal has now clarified the situation.
“Paddy McNair, now, is coming from out of the youth, he has extended his contract, so he is a Manchester United player,” said the United manager, reports Daily Star.
The 19 year old has played in some key fixtures this season and has featured against the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool coming off relatively unscathed.
He recently starred against Cambridge United in an FA Cup replay by helping to set up his side’s first goal and said he is relishing his time in the United first team.
“I’ll play anywhere – if I’m asked to play up front, I’ll play up front. I’m just enjoying the experience,” he continued.
