Van Persie has a special relationship with Red Devils’ boss Van Gaal following the latter’s managerial time with the Netherlands national team – however their relationship was tested in the first-half of the season when the striker was seriously failing to impress.

Most notably the United boss even considered dropping the Dutch forward after an extremely poor showing against Arsenal last November.

While there has been an improvement in form, Van Persie has still only netted eight times – and missed a golden chance in the goalless draw at Cambridge United in the FA Cup on Friday.

The 31 year old had this to say:

“This year I have played something like 20 games and I have scored eight goals – I am not happy with that. I want to score more. I will do everything, every day in training and during the games, I will keep doing what I have been doing for the last 10 years to make those goals.”

The forward has admitted that his future is unclear:

“It is not up to me,’ he said. ‘For the moment I am staying here for 18 months. That is it really. I can’t look into the future. I don’t know what is going to happen after that. We shall have to wait and see,” as quoted by the Daily Mail.
