Five Players Who Have Been Booed By Their Own Fans: Former Arsenal, Chelsea And Manchester United Stars Join Emmanuel Adebayor On List Of Shame
Adebayor made his first start for Tottenham since November after being handed compassionate leave, as well as injury and illness problems that have kept him out of the squad.
The former Arsenal star was even handed the captain’s armband – but was later booed off by the fans when he was replaced after 65 minutes.
Here’s how Twitter reacted – and it seems Spurs fans weren’t too pleased with their player being booed:
A true captain’s performance from Adebayor tonight. The kind of captain who has one leg, an eye patch and drunk on rum.

Fans boo Adebayor. Pochettino gives him the armband. Coaching. — Rawhide (@Rawhide1882) January 21, 2015
As much as I’m not a fan booing Adebayor is well out of order. Never boo your own players however bad or as much as they may be arseholes. — Steve Joslin (@wolverine99) January 21, 2015
Still very angry that people boo’d @E_Adebayor off. Was off on compassionate leave & people seem to have VERY short memories. #AdeSalute?! — Nikhil Saglani (@Nikhil_Saglani) January 21, 2015
To those fans that boo’ed Adebayor tonight, can I ask why exactly? And why him specifically over others? #THFC

I get the fact that it’s not productive and doesn’t help the atmosphere but I have some sympathy for those who want to boo Adebayor #thfc — Julian Betts (@BettsJulian) January 22, 2015
So disappointed with some of the fans at the stadium yesterday boo’ing Adebayor. It’s embarrassing and childish — Spurs Shout (@SpursShout) January 22, 2015
Do not understand how fans can boo their own player, no matter what they think of him #thfc #Adebayor — Adam Mendlesohn (@adammendlesohn) January 22, 2015
