The 25 year old Bradford born star is out of contract in the summer and is seen by Rodgers as a possible replacement for exit-bound star Steven Gerrard.
Villa Park manager Paul Lambert would like to keep hold of England man Delph, who has apparently demanded a £50k a week deal, though the Scottish boss insists money may not be the only motivation in relation to the signing of a new contract.
On the subject of retaining Delph, Lambert has stated;
“Can we keep him? Yes. With Fabian it will not be about money. He’s not a money-orientated guy. He just wants to play football.
“It would be a major boost if we can get him to stay. It would send out a great message.
“We’re still talking to Fabian. Hopefully we can get something done. It would be great for us if we could do it.”
This source suggests an £8m bid would perhaps force Villa to consider cashing in on Delph given that he’d potentially leave the club on a free transfer in a matter of months.
With Liverpool desperate to retain the Champions League berth they secured last term it’s plausible that Rodgers would look to his board to fund such a bid this month.
That said, Rodgers may deem Jordan Henderson as the player who can fill the void that will be created by Gerrard’s exit, with the former Sunderland man performing superbly well last season.
