The Manchester United goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Madrid after a so far inspiring season for the Red Devils.

Transfer rumours have intensified further with the arrival of Victor Valdes from Barcelona that de Gea could be set for a summer move away from the club.

However, Calderon has insisted that the 24-year-old is not needed at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu – as he would be a downgrade from Casillas.

“We already have the best goalkeeper in the world, which is Casillas. We also have Keylor Navas. I don’t see any need to get any other goalkeeper,” the former president said.

“De Gea is perhaps also one of the best goalkeepers in the world but Casillas can still be at the top for three or four years. I don’t see any need for De Gea.”

Do you agree with Calderon – is de Gea not needed at Madrid?
