Louis van Gaal is ready to fork out £30m to bring in Gaitan to partner fellow countryman Angel di Maria as Man United’s chief wide-attacking options.
Gaitan has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for quite some time, the club’s interest in the 26 year old dating back to when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, and the talented playmaker may feel the time is right to consider a high-profile move.
The former Boca Juniors star is into his fifth season at the Estádio da Luz and played a key role in his Jorge Jesus’s plans as the Lisbon based side snatched back the Primeira Liga title from FC Porto, who had won the domestic championship in seven of the previous eight seasons.
The likes of Ashley Young, and loaned out Portuguese international Nani are playing for their futures having all been linked with exits recently.
Youngster Adnan Januzaj is certainly a player with a bright future but doesn’t appear to be part of van Gaal’s immediate plans and Luis Antonio Valencia has been moved into a wing-back role so a move for Gaitan is a wise one to consider.
