Ballon d’Or winner admits lingering affection for former club.
Real Madrid megastar Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he still has a lot of love for Manchester United and speaks regularly with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the Daily Mirror reports.
The now three-time Ballon d’Or winner left Old Trafford for the Bernabeu in a then-world record transfer fee in the summer of 2009.
And even though he signed a lucrative new deal with the Spanish giants last year, he has consistently been linked with a big money return to Old Trafford in the near future.
And after picking up his third Ballon d’Or award in Zurich on Monday he admitted that he still has a lot of affection for the Red Devils.
“I think about Manchester United,” he said. “The beginning of my career was there, that’s where I started.
“I know the fans are there supporting me.”
Ronaldo enjoyed a tremendous relationship with then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and went on to confirm that the pair are still very much in touch.
“I haven’t had a message from Sir Alex yet but I speak with him often,” he added.
“He told me to keep improving all the time. He said: ‘Cristiano, you’re the best, don’t worry about the rest’.
“He’s fantastic, I miss him.”
