Whilst fourth spot and therefore Champions League qualification has always been regarded as the high watermark for Spurs, Pochettino thinks that they can go one better this season.
The Argentine has also taken a subtle swing at rivals Arsenal as well, failing to include them in his group of teams fighting for the top four places in the English top tier.
“I do not know if there is a favourite for fourth place, but we have to ask who is going to be third as well,” Pochettino was quoted by the Times.
“It is clear Chelsea and Manchester City will be first and second. After that, nothing is clear so far. There is Manchester United, Southampton, West Ham and us.
“We need to believe. If we believe and show what we showed against Chelsea, anything is possible.”
Both Gunners and probably Liverpool fans surely won’t be pleased by Pochettino’s assessment, particularly those at the Emirates Stadium considering their side actually sit above West Ham United in the table currently.
For Tottenham though, after a shaky start under their new boss things have picked up in recent times and the Champions League no longer looks like such a far-fetched target.
