French news source Sport 10 claim United will move for the Uruguayan at the end of the season as they are unsatisfied with the performances of on-loan AS Monaco star Falcao.

Louis van Gaal is wanting a forward capable of leading the Red Devils front line and could move for Cavani in January, though that is unlikely at this stage.

United are said to have already informed the 27-year-old they are chasing his signature, which will come as welcome relief to the striker who reportedly wants to leave PSG as soon as possible after a difficult spell in the French capital.

The Manchester club are said to have more of a chance than heavily linked suitors Arsenal of capturing Cavani due to their stronger financial muscle and would have no problem matching his wages or transfer cost.

The Gunners do remain a seriously interested party for him, however, but Sport 10 say the club’s current wage policy would have to be changed to accommodate the PSG man’s €8.5 million a year deal.

Approving the South American’s expensive salary could anger some of the club’s bigger names, says the report, who would then also want a hefty wage increase.
