The 20-year-old was in the back of the VW Toureg and was killed instantly when the SUV lost control in bad weather, skidded of the road and crashed into a tree.
The driver and the other passenger were both seriously injured and have been taken to hospital, with the police reporting that the vehicle was travelling with excessive speed when it crashed.
“It is assumed that excessive speed was cause of the accident. Added to that was violent wind and aquaplaning. The Toureg has been confiscated whilst experts evaluate the site of the accident,” police said.
Malanda was a Belgium Under-21 international who to date had earned 15 caps for the youth team and scored two goals. The youngster was also an established figure in the Wolfsburg first team and had made 15 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Belgian left his home nation back in 2007 to join the Lille academy, but was soon back in the Juplier League when he signed for Zulte Waregem in 2012.
The Bundesliga club then signed Malanda a year later, but sent the midfielder back on-loan to Waregem for the 2013/14 season before heading back to Germany this summer.
