The 23 year old has impressed since moving to Parkhead in June 2013 and whilst Sunderland and Everton have opened talks to sign the former Groningen centre-back Arsenal are also said to be keen on the Celtic star.

Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his defence and retains an interest in West Ham’s Winston Reid, who’s Upton Park contract expires in the summer, and may feel that £10m is a fair price to pay for Van Dijk.

The Celtic man would presumably jump at the chance of a move to the Emirates Stadium and the high-profile move would help Van Dijk secure a first senior Dutch national team cap having previously represented the Under 21 side.

Wenger’s defence has been severely stretched this term with a number of player’s suffering injuries which has led to both Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Debuchy having to fill makeshift central defensive spots.
