Valdes has trained at United since October under the watchful eye of the Red Devils goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek and new boss Louis Van Gaal following his release at Barcelona after he came to the end of his contract.
There was concern a knee injury the keeper had suffered last season had not fully healed meaning Valdes has been forced to prove his fitness to the United hierarchy.
However, after months training with both the reserves and the first team squad, Van Gaal now feels after thorough medical examinations that Valdes is fully fit.
David De Gea would still most likely be United’s main choice throughout the season but as United lack a major name or talent on the bench, Valdes would appear to be a smart acquisition.
