The former Sheffield United player is apparently going to train with the Latics on Monday before a proposed moved to the club. The plan will be announced in a press conference tomorrow by the club. This is a massive turnaround for the side who just last month insisted that they were not going to sign the striker.
The 26-year-old has been looking for a club since leaving prison in October. He trained at Sheffield United for a short while before outside pressure forced them to stop allowing him to work there. Evans was set to sign for Maltese side Hibernians before the Ministry of Justice barred the move as he is not allowed to work outside of the UK.
Whether this signing is welcomed by Oldham fans is doubtful. At Sheffield United 160,000 people signed a petition to get the player to leave the club, and then he was only using the training facilities. The backlash from this development will be seen when it is announced.
