Arsenal’s opening bid for Polish teenager Krystian Bielik has been rejected by Legia Warsaw, according to Eurosport Poland.
The Gunners have been linked with the 16-year-old for many months and the Emirates Stadium remains one of his most likely destinations.
However, Bielik to Arsenal is no longer considered a certainty. That is because Legia have received interest from another top European club.
Serie A giants AS Roma are said to be keen on the wonderkid, who, despite his age, is very tall – 6ft 2in to be precise.
Legia now look set to use Roma’s interest to ramp up their transfer fee demands.
Bielik is believed to prefer a move to Arsenal and he has already spoken to manager Arsene Wenger during a trip to England.
He could join the Gunners as soon as January, but he would be unlikely to become a first-team player this season.
However, Bielik has already played five Ekstraklasa games and appeared as a substitute in the Europa League for Legia.
Arsenal’s current squad includes Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The Gunners also have Lukas Podolski – a German international who was born in Poland.
Roma have a Polish goalkeeper too – Lukasz Skorupski.
