Though Alan Pardew has seen Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez impress this term the St James’ Park boss still has an eye on Loftus Road ace Austin.
Redknapp is hoping that the former Burnley man puts pen to paper on a new deal, with a £60k a week contract on the table, but the chances of the 25 year old staying at the west London side will reduce dramatically if they can not avoid the drop back down to the Championship.
Austin has scored 11 of QPR’s 20 Premier League goals this season and his hat-trick against West Brom on Saturday helped secure a crucial victory over the Baggies and further boost his standing.
An England call-up may soon beckon and this in turn could lead to further interest in the forward.
