The former Barcelona keeper has been training with Manchester United at Carrington as he recovers from a long-term knee injury, prompting a number of rumours that he would sign for the club once he was fully recovered.
With Simon Mignolet underperforming for Liverpool this season, and deputy shot-stopper Brad Jones considered not to be of the calibre required to play for a top Premier League club, the Merseyside club have also been linked with a move for the experienced free agent.
Recent reports suggested that Brendan Rodgers’ side had beaten United to his signature, but van Gaal has taken exception to those claims and responded angrily to the media.
“It’s only talk from you,” he said.
“Not from us, not from Valdes, only the media. I’m not here to inform the media. You have to wait and listen and see.
“If Liverpool are interested, he goes to Liverpool. The media are suggesting and that’s a big mistake.
“That’s why I’m always angry because you are inventing stories. There are no stories.”
With David de Gea in such fine form at the moment, a new keeper doesn’t really seem necessary at Old Trafford.
Liverpool on the other hand, are in dire need of a new shot-stopper.
