Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will be forever scarred in his memories by Arsenal’s 5-1 horror show defeat at Liverpool last season.

Wenger is preparing his side’s for his first visit to Anfield since the Gunners dramatic and embarrassing collapse on Merseyside in 2013/14.

The North London side went to the match as Premier League leaders, but their table topping status was made a mockery of as they were already 4-0 down to Brendan Rodgers’ side after just 20 minutes.

And Wenger has revealed he’s still haunted by the heavy defeat.

“Every defeat hurts, every defeat is a scar in your heart forever,” the Frenchman was quoted by the Telegraph.

“We also have very good memories at Liverpool. We won many games at Liverpool as well. Even last year when we lost against them, the week later against the same team we won 2-1 at home in the FA Cup.”

Wenger was also full of praise for what he calls the special Anfield atmosphere.

“I have a lot of respect for the crowd at Liverpool because they stand behind their team. I remember one day [Arsenal] were leading 5-1 at Liverpool and they were chanting ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’” Wenger continued.

“It’s one of the few grounds in the world where you can see that. There’s a special combination of knowledge of the game at Liverpool and of support of their team.”
