One such player is 17-year-old centre-back Stefan O’Connor, who signed his first professional contract with the club just two months ago.

With plenty of experience at a range of youth levels, the commanding defender has made a name for himself at the Emirates Stadium as a promising youngster with excellent leadership qualities.

He has made a number of appearances for the Under-21s despite his young age, and has regularly been called up to train with the first team squad this season.

O’Connor was also a major player in Arsenal’s UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup runs last season.

The youngster is a tough tackler and is adept at winning possession. His distribution still needs some work, but that is sure to be a skill he can hone while with the Gunners.

With the defensive options for Arsene Wenger so limited at the moment, O’Connor could see senior football for the first time in the Champions League this week.
