Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois is found in second position for his time at Atletico Madrid, while Real Madrid stalwart Iker Casillas only made it in to 20th place. The list was created by analysing 790 goalkeepers who have been playing in the Spanish league during the years since 1928. It concluded that the former Barcelona stopper is the ideal ‘prototype’ for a keeper.
This will come as a boost to free agent Valdes as he attempts to persuade a club to sign him following a serious knee injury that forced him to miss the World Cup. The 32-year-old is currently training at Manchester United, and they may be persuaded to sign him if he can prove he is back to full fitness.
