Spurs may not need to beat Partizan to qualify with a game to spare. The Londoners can even afford to lose to the Serbian side, as long as Asteras Tripolis do not take three points from their home clash with Besiktas.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be desperate to record a win in front of their own supporters, who have been far from impressed of late, having witnessed Premier League defeats to West Brom, Stoke and Newcastle at White Hart Lane.

Furthermore, Spurs, who travel to Besiktas on matchday six, will be keen to beat Partizan to stay in the hunt for top spot.

Partizan have been Group C’s whipping boys and they cannot qualify, having taken just one point from a possible 12. That point was earned in a 0-0 draw against Spurs back in September.

Pochettino is expected to field a strong team, but with Federico Fazio suspended and Younes Kaboul an injury doubt, Vlad Chiriches could start in central defence.

Harry Kane, who is the Europa League’s joint leading goalscorer with five, is likely to start up front, as Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado are both struggling to be fit.
