Louis van Gaal opted to send winger Nani back to his former club Sporting Lisbon and the excellent form he has shown for the Primeira Liga side, six goals in 13 appearances, could be key to a potential swap deal.
Sporting Lisbon would no doubt like to welcome in Nani on a perment deal but may struggle to find requisite funds to do so, which could lead to Carvalho’s inevitable exit helping all parties.
Van Gaal could well do with a strong midfield presence and 22 year old Carvalho may be an ideal long term option to fill just such a void.
Carvalho’s form helped Sporting Lisbon to an unexpected runners-up finish last season, their best finish in five seasons, though Marco Silva’s side have struggled to replicate those efforts this term and this could further the possibility of the Angolan born enforcer leaving for pastures new.
