Dutch manager Louis van Gaal is worried that his compatriot is unable to keep up with the pace of the Premier League, and his recent injury problems are of increasing concern to the United boss.
The Red Devils are planning to offload the forward at the end of the season, at which point he will have just a year left on his current contract.
Ex-Arsenal star van Persie is believed to have a loyalty bonus clause in his contract, which would force United to pay out an additional £10m if he were to see out his current deal.
His form has been poor this season, and if it wasn’t for injury problems of his own, Radamel Falcao may have usurped his place in the starting XI.
Van Persie faces his old side Arsenal this Saturday evening at the Emirates, and he will be looking to change his form at his old stomping grounds if he can.
