The 25 year old German international is apparently ‘certain’ to leave the Westfalenstadion at the end of the season with the World Cup winner possessing a very reasonable £20m release clause that a host of sides would surely be ready to trigger.

Reus has seen his side start the season in woeful fashion, with Borussia Dortmund hovering around the relegation zone after losing seven of their opening 11 fixtures, heightening the chances of a likely exit.

Mourinho wants Chelsea’s money men to thrash out a deal as soon as possible so as to prevent Reus being nabbed by another prospective suitor.

It’s not immediately obvious as to how Reus could be accommodated into Chelsea’s starting eleven.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach is often played in a ‘number ten’ role behind a central striker but has the finishing ability to be used up front, as evidenced by his healthy tally of 47 goals in 99 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

A move for Reus may well leave Andre Schurrle concerned for his future at the west London side.
