Louis van Gaal is keen on the World Cup winner though will have to battle fellow Premier League sides Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham to land the 23 year old.

Kramer is currently into the second season of a two year long loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach and whilst a move back to parent club Bayer Leverkusen is entirely possible the midfielder has spoken of his willingness to move abroad.

“That has always interested me,” he said. “I would not be afraid of (going abroad).

“I want to find out what my limit is and I always strive for the very best.”

“Of course (going back to Leverkusen) is an option for me,” he said.

“They have a good coach in Roger Schmidt and they play an attractive style of football which would also suit me.”

Real Madrid are also known to court Kramer and with defensive midfielder Sami Khedira’s current Bernabeu contract expiring next summer Carlo Ancelotti may look to replace one German with another.

Van Gaal may have brought in Daley Blind and Ander Herrera to improve his central midfield options but could well do with further signings in this regard despite the fact that Marouane Fellaini has experienced something of a return to form.
