According to Marca, Ozil has since fallen out with his father Mustapha, his agent at the time, over the move, and is thought to be pining for a return to the Bernabeu after seeing the tremendous success enjoyed by his former employers this season.
The German playmaker has struggled to find his best form since his move to Arsenal, and this might serve as some explanation for his lacklustre efforts in many games for the Gunners, which have seen him come under increasing criticism from the club’s fans.
Ozil won the FA Cup with the north Londoners last season, but has had to watch as his old club lifted the Champions League trophy in May before looking like favourites for even more silverware and success under Carlo Ancelotti this season.
Ozil’s father had a financial interest in persuading his son to sign for Arsenal in a big-money move, and this deal has severely soured their relationship, with the 26-year-old now represented by his brother instead.
