The 25 year old is nearing a return from the cruciate knee ligament that has sidelined him since April and Southampton are ready to offer the forward a new five year contract in order to ward off interest from prospective suitors.

The Saints have been in excellent form this term under new manager Ronald Koeman and with Graziano Pelle performing wonderfully well and the south-coast having forked out a massive £12m to bring in Republic of Ireland international Shane Long are perhaps well covered up for options up front.

Spurs will offer £20m for Rodriguez who 15 Premier League goals last term before his injury and could offer Pochettino some much needed quality up front.

Though youngster Harry Kane has been a breath of fresh air in the final third the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado have looked laboured and devoid of ideas, and most importantly have been hopeless in front of goal.
