Schneiderlin was a £17m target of former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino and no doubt the Argentine would dearly love to snap up the French international if he were to leave the south-coast.
The 24 year old saw a number of his team-mates leave Southampton for pastures new over the summer but under Ronald Koeman the club have gone from strength to strength though failure to secure a top four spot will seemingly lead to his exit.
On the subject of his future Schneiderlin stated fairly honestly;
“If someone had told me at the end of the transfer window that Southampton would be second, I would not have believed it,” he told L’Equipe.
“Even though we lost a lot of people, the club has recruited well and a new coach arrived with a new philosophy.
“A career passes quickly and I want to play for a big club. Today I am at Southampton, we are second in the Premier League, it’s going well.
“We’ll see at the end of the season if [a transfer] will happen. If we have qualified for the Champions League, I will make the choice.”
It’s unlikely Southampton will be able to maintain their superb form but that said it’s entirely likely they could finish above Tottenham and as such would a move to the north London side be one Schneiderlin would consider?
