Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City were left furious after the first half of the Manchester derby saw them denied not one but two penalties against arch rivals Manchester United.

Michael Oliver can be forgiven for missing Marouane Fellaini’s foul on Sergio Aguero early on, with the referee’s view blocked as the Argentine took a fairly innocuous looking kick to the ankle.
The second incident looked a sure penalty however, with Yaya Toure being brought down by Marcos Rojo after being played through on goal superbly.
Rojo clumsily caught the Ivorian and got nothing on the ball as he brought him down. The referee may have been thinking that if he gave the spot kick then he would have to send the Argentine off as well; which after Chris Smalling’s red card would have left them with nine men.
