What has the wonderful world of social media had to say about the QPR defender’s latest incident?
Rio Ferdinand’s career as a fantastic defender continues to be overshadowed by his descent into self-parody. The latest Rio controversy involved him referring to someone’s mother as a “sket” on Twitter, leading to a £25k fine and a three game ban.
As if the whole situation, from the tweet to the punishment, wasn’t farcical enough, Twitter users have also weighed in with their take on the situation.
As always, Paddy Power’s twitter piped up about the incident:
QPR are considering appealing Rio Ferdinand’s 3-game ban. QPR’s next three opponents have urged them to do so.

This United fan clearly still feels aggrieved about the FA banning Rio, who had done nothing more sinister than miss a simple compulsory drugs test:
Could be worse @rioferdy5 Imagine if you had forgotten about the tweet. You would have got an 8 month ban! #FAjokers

This user was offended by the incident too, but more for the terrible disrespect shown to the hilarious “banter” of calling someone a sket:
3 game ban for a decent bit of banter. Got to be having a laugh? @rioferdy5 — Tom Neale (@TommoNeale1) October 29, 2014
Rio has stayed quiet on the incident, and is clearly keeping himself busy while banned:
This girl is going to scuff with jezza Kyle….JK better get his guard up!!

Gino Raidy described Rio as “really stupid”, which is perhaps a little kind:
Wow. Rio Ferdinand is really stupid. His publicist should ban him from doing interviews. — Gino Raidy (@GinoRaidy) October 5, 2014
