The 20 year old Frenchman is considered one of the hottest young talents in European football and is also, helpfully, apparently a fan of the Old Trafford side.
Louis van Gaal could certainly do with strengthening his leaky defence and a move for Laporte, though not cheap, would be something of a statement of intent and a long term solution to his defensive problems.
Man United have agreed to pay Laporte’s £32m release clause and will look to welcome in the French Under 21 international when the January transfer window reopens.
Phil Jones has struggled with injuries, Jonny Evans with form and it’s fair to say that new signing Marcos Rojo hasn’t been all that impressive when used in central defence and as such a move for a fresh option is a wise one to make in January.
Laporte moved to San Mames in 2010 and has made 66 appearances for the Basque outfit.
