The fans were at an Australian bar when the hooligans came and started to attack them with metal chairs. The thugs then tried to force their way in to the pub, but couldn’t get in. Toffees followers of all ages are thought to have been in the pub.

Eyewitnesses claim that the Merseysiders were acting peacefully when the unprovoked attack occurred. French police eventually stopped the incident, but were accused of using CS gas on the Evertonian victims as well as their attackers.

The supporters were in the French city in anticipation of their team’s Europa League Group Stage match with Lille where they will be looking to build on the four points they have gained from their first two games against Wolfsburg and Krasnodar.

Meanwhile Lille will be trying to improve on the two draws they have managed so far.
