The 20 year old year old put in a superb display on his return to help Everton to a 3-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend and Jose Mourinho is known to be a big admirer of the England international though this source suggests that Barkley’s £30m valuation is far lower than the player’s potential warrants.

He’s clearly a player Toffees boss Roberto Martinez doesn’t want to lose though the Spaniard is quick to sing the player’s praises;

“He is unique, a unique player,”

“You don’t see another player like him because you don’t get that balance of physicality and technical ability. He is a diamond – the perfect player for this league.

“I think we need to be careful though, with players like Ross and Raheem Sterling. With young players playing for England there needs to be a process to learn what is expected.”

Jose Mourinho’s expansive squad is already jam packed with top young talents but that doesn’t necessarily negate the Portuguese manager’s interest in Barkley, not if he feels the Everton man is a player who can offer even more than those already on the Chelsea payroll.
