The quarter-finals of the Apertura’s Copa MX start tonight.

Mexico has two domestic cups per season – one before Christmas and one after Christmas.

The current holders of the trophy are Tigres UANL. The Monterrey-based side scored an impressive 32 goals in 9 games on their way to victory last April. They have progressed from the group stage and will face Toluca tomorrow.

The competition holds extra importance this season as the two champions will play off next summer for a place in the 2016 Copa Libertadores.

Leon and America are the two most successful sides, both having won the trophy five times. Neither participated this year, however, as teams involved in continental competitions are exempt.
