The 19-year-old has become a hugely important player for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the last year or so, breaking into the starting lineup last season as the Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
Sterling’s fine form had then seen him linked with a move to Real, who have been on the lookout for attacking midfielders after agreeing to sell Angel Di Maria to Manchester United this summer.
However, they now look set to miss out on the England international as he looks ready to commit his future to the Merseyside giants by penning a new deal that will more than triple his current wages of £30,000 per week.
Sources close to the club say talks are progressing well and that an agreement is expected to be reached within the next few weeks, in what will no doubt be a welcome boost for Liverpool after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the summer and enduring a poor run of form at the start of this season.
