This weekend sees first play third and second play fourth as Club America host Monterrey and Atlas welcome Toluca respectively.
Given there are only five games remaining in the regular season, the winners from this weekend’s fixtures will take a big step towards confirming a play-off berth. The losers could be dragged back into the messy battle going on behind them – currently there are only two points separating seventh-placed Santos Laguna from eleventh-placed Chiapas.
America are coming off the back of a shock 4-0 loss to Cruz Azul in week 12, while Monterrey boast the league’s top scorer Dorlan Pabon. America are without their top scorer – wing back Miguel Layun – after he was injured on international duty.
Toluca are tied with Tigres UANL as the most in-form side in the country, whilst Atlas are a surprise package at the top end of the division.
The top five in Mexico have lost two games each this season, suggesting there is little between them. It should be a fantastic Super Saturday.
