The experienced Spanish international has been linked several times with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent months, with some fans calling for him to be dropped after a poor run of form.
Although Carlo Ancelotti has been quoted as saying that the club would not be looking to offload the 33-year-old anytime soon, Liverpool remain keen on competing for his signature this season.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in competition for current number one Simon Mignolet, who has not been at his best since making the move to Anfield from Sunderland last season.
Former Barcelona shot-stopper Victor Valdes had also emerged as a top target for the Merseysiders, though it has recently been claimed that a move to snap him up on a free transfer could fall through, leaving the club to consider other options between the sticks.
Casillas’s potential availability now seems to have alerted Liverpool and he may now be their top target to come in in goal this term.
