It was always expected that the Barca star would finish his career at the Nou Camp, but complications regarding a tax fraud case have meant that the 27-year-old could be forced into moving away from Spain, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all considering moves for the four-time Ballon d’Or winner, reports the International Business Times.
Now, the comments of Jorge Messi are likely to spark even more speculation about the Argentina international’s future.
“He loves Barça, but life takes lots of twists… You just never know. He loves Rosario (Argentina), he built a house there… What do I know, life takes lots of twists and turns,” Messi Senior was quoted by Marca.
While the Argentine international is still regarded as one of the best players on the planet, his father admits that his form last season was his worst since turning pro.
“I don’t know what happened to him. It was the culmination of lots of things. It was almost two years between injuries and a string of other things which took their toll on him,” he continued.
Jorge Messi also touched on his son’s rivalry with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and claims that sometimes it can be positive for the Barca legend.
“I think it is, not always, but there are times when it is because it pushes them both to be better players,” he said.
