MLS Commissioner and league chief Don Garber is trending worldwide on Twitter after a press conference.
MLS boss Garber lost his cool completely in a press conference today, lambasting US national team manager Klinsmann for his recent comments. Klinsmann had criticised both the lack of promotion and relegation and the standard of play in the league – concluding that the problems hurt the progression of the national side.
It wasn’t unreasonable.

It is worth remembered the MLS has used blind draws to allocate players to teams, has a $50,000 per annum salary cap, and is a single closed entity – meaning Garber is hardly immune to criticism himself.
Twitter, and the MLS, are in meltdown…
That one made me laugh. Garber demanding that a national team coach not criticize national team players? A tinge of delusion in that comment

This is one of the 10 most embarrassing things in MLS history & this is a league that had a team called the Wiz & let Chad Barrett succeed

Garber has done plenty of good for soccer in the U. This conf call isn’t one of his highlights. Made something small into something giant

Klinsmann’s best response to this is to say nothing – he’s already shared his opinion. Garber came off looking a bit desperate today

A simple ‘Jürgen is entitled to his opinions, but we don’t share them. Now, let’s talk about that salary cap,’ might have been better.

Maybe Klinsmann can rip the salary cap, single entity, blind draws, $35k minimum salaries, and allocation next.

Garber bringing up Donovan’s World Cup exclusion was particularly random (and cringe-worthy). All it needed was a Sarah McLaughlin track

No matter what you think about me, or twitter, or speaking out – @J_Klinsmann deserves your support. Garber is WAY out of line.
