Gunners star didn’t think England teammate would be heading for the Emirates.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he was shocked to see Danny Welbeck join the club this summer instead of heading to Tottenham, the Daily Express reports.

Spurs were heavily linked with the 23-year-old this summer, and that is where many believed he would end up before he completed a £16m move to Arsenal on deadline day.
Gunners ace Wilshere was with Welbeck on transfer deadline day, and he has now revealed that he thought the former Manchester United was having him on when he told him about the possible move.
“I remember speaking to Danny in the England camp on deadline day and he said it was on,” Wilshere.
“I thought he was joking. I was reading that Tottenham were interested and then he said that Arsenal were interested.
“As soon as he said we were interested I was telling him ‘you’ve got to come’. He gives us something different, he runs behind. Because we lost Olivier Giroud, we needed a key man.”
