The former Reds defender blasted Sterling’s agent in the wake of rumours spreading about Real Madrid’s interest in the player. Carragher seems convinced that Sterling’s agent, Rob Segal, is the man behind the stories.

The implication is that Segal is drumming up interest from other clubs in order to secure his client a better deal. Sterling signed a five year deal at the end of 2012, but has since become one of Liverpool’s most important players, meaning that the £30,000-per-week he now receives is already far below what other teams would be willing to pay.
Liverpool are desperate to tie the English star to a new deal, despite the two years left on his current deal, but the attacker, presumably on the advice of Segal, is biding his time and strengthening his position with good performances.
