Sturridge suffered an injury before England’s last game against Switzerland.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has said that Daniel Sturridge will not be fit for England duty despite hinting that the striker could be available for selection in the Reds’ game against West Bromwich Albion this weekend, BBC Sport reports.

The striker has been out of action with a thigh injury since he was last on England duty, leaving Rodgers without one of his best players for most of September.

The 25-year-old is now approaching full fitness but despite that, Rodgers has warned England boss Roy Hodgson not to select the front man for England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia later this month.

“If we’re talking about players being picked for international duty then they need to be fit. Daniel certainly won’t be fit,” Rodgers claimed.

“He won’t be fit to play for England whether he’s available for the weekend or not.

“I don’t think he’s fit to play for England. We’re hoping he can develop over the next 48 hours to be in a position to train with the team on Thursday and maybe be available for the squad on Saturday.”

Sturridge has become a key part of Hodgson’s England side since he made his debut three years ago. The former Chelsea striker has found the net five times in 16 appearances for the national team.
