The 36-year-old, who left Chelsea at the end of his contract this summer, has been a surprise signing by City on a short-term loan deal, with the player keen to keep up his fitness before New York City’s season begins in the new year.
However, recent reports suggested that Lampard’s fine performances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side could persuade the Premier League champions to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, though this now looks unlikely.
Lampard scored against his old side Chelsea last weekend before netting twice for City in the Capital One Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, sparking rumours that he could be kept on by the club as he shows he can still reach top form at this level despite his age.
