City and Chelsea are heavy favourites to be the Premier League’s top two this season and nothing could separate them, mainly thanks to Lampard, who popped up with an excellent finish from Edin Dzeko’s cut back.
Chelsea had taken the lead when Andre Schurrle finished a wonderful flowing move and with City being down to 10 ten men following Pablo Zabaleta’s sending off, it looked like Jose Mourinho’s men would take all three points.
However, Lampard had other ideas, scoring the type of goal that had become his trademark during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Lampard’s goal.
NOOOOOOO, Lamps! How can you do that to us?! ???? @chelseafc

Can’t remember feeling so affected by a goal conceded than that by Lampard. Damn, that hurt. — Chelsea FC (@Chelseafc_life) September 21, 2014
Lampard will only play part of this Premier League season, but he’s scored a goal that will influence the title race. Again. #MCFC #CFC — Duncan Castles (@DuncanCastles) September 21, 2014
No celebration from Lampard, understandably. In the wake of that goal Didier Drogba has come on for Diego Costa. #CFCLive
