Emirates Stadium side chase two top quality additions who can be brought in ‘on the cheap’ in January.

Arsenal have set their sights on two potential January signings who could prove good value for money additions to help boost Arsene Wenger’s squad.

The Daily Star claim that the Emirates Stadium side are looking to beef up their defensive options with a move for highly rated Swiss international Fabian Schar.

Wenger is short of defensive options with Thomas Vermaelen having moved to Barcelona and injuries suffered by the likes of Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal further stretches his squad so a move for the 22 year old would be a sensible one to consider.

FC Basel value Schar at £10m but given that his contract runs out next summer one imagines a January offer of less than that price-tag could be accepted.

Tottenham are also said to be keen on Schar with sporting director Franco Baldini scouting him in recent weeks.

Wenger has set his sights on another player who’s contract is running down with a bid for PSG starlet Adrien Rabiot said to be in the offing.

This source believes the 19 year old could be available for as little as £2m in January and that would represent a massive bargain.

Rabiot is keen to move on having seen his first team chances at the Parc des Princes limited and given that the rangy midfield is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football one would imagine other sides would be keen on securing the French Under 21 international in January.
