The 25-year-old has been linked with a whole host of top clubs in recent times, and it is thought that he has decided to snub offers from the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in favour of a move to the Bernabeu.

Reus will move in a £20m deal, believed to be his release clause which becomes active next summer, having turned down a new contract offer from Dortmund worth as much as £8m per season.

It could be that the German international will be brought in as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who continues to be linked with a return to the Premier League next summer with either Chelsea or his old club Manchester United.

Reus certainly has the ability to fill Ronaldo’s boots, having established himself as one of the best goalscoring wingers in Europe in recent times in some truly world class displays for both club and country.

United will be disappointed to miss out on a player of such quality for a bargain price, but it may well boost their efforts to re-sign Ronaldo.
