The experienced centre back’s current contract with the Red Devils only runs until June 30 2014 and with the player’s agent having recently confirmed that his client will not be extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of this campaign, the race is now on to win Vidic’s signature.
“Right now I would rule out a contract extension with United,” said Vidic’s representative, Silvano Martina.
“Given his situation, Vidic has several teams interested in him. He’s a great player and will have no trouble finding a club, so we’re calm.”
The Catalans are known to currently be on the look-out for a new dominant central defender to bring to Camp Nou, especially given the continued injury problems suffered by veteran skipper Carles Puyol at the back in recent seasons.
However, Barca know that they will face stiff competition for the 32-year-old, with Serie A high-flyers Napoli also believed to be keen on signing the Serbia international next summer.
“There’s yet to be any contact,” Martina said of any possible interest in Vidic from the Southern Italian outfit. “But thanks to Aurelio De Laurentiis and Riccardo Bigon Napoli are one of the top clubs in Europe.”
